Zoos and wildlife gardens are special places for animals and people.

Zoos present exceptional opportunities for people to become familiar with animals, especially those of conservation concern.

Progressive zoos are becoming a last refuge for many species as the wild becomes spoilt by human pressures.

There is hope! One example of the success of international breeding cooperation by zoos to help a critically endangered species is the recovery in numbers of Snow Leopards. Each Snow Leopard held at Thrigby is registered in the international zoo breeding stud book.
