Birds in our Aviary

Painted Storks
Temminck's Tragopan

With one exception all pheasant species, including peafowl, originate from Asia.

In many, the cock is gorgeously coloured and extravagantly marked. Vigorous displays enhance these attributes - all to impress as many females as will mate with him.

Though storks and ibis are apparently similar to cranes they are unrelated. Storks and ibis nest in company, off the ground, usually up in trees. The young stay in the nest for several weeks after hatching. Long legs, necks and bills indicate food foraging characteristics in common - walking through grassland or wading in shallow water seeking a variety of small animal and plant life.
